Although you can make bulgogi with any type of meat, including red, white, or even seafood. Also, there are many ways to make this recipe; some people bake it. Others grill it. But today we will make it in the most traditional and original way and for doing that we need:
- ½ kg of chicken
- 2 tsp finely chopped garlic
- 2 Green onion
- ½ medium-sized onion
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 5 tsp hot pepper paste
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp pepper flakes
- 1 tsp sesame seed
- 2 tsp rice wine
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tsp finely chopped ginger
- 2 tsp black pepper
Instruction: Chicken Bulgogi
Wash the chicken properly and pat dry it with a kitchen towel. Cut it into thin cubes with the size of almost 3 inches per cube, put it in a bowl, and set aside.
Peel and cut the onions into 1-2-inch pieces and put them in a bowl. Add the minced garlic and ginger to them and put them into the chicken bowl.
Take another bowl and add soy sauce, spices, rice wine, sugar, sesame oil, and pepper paste. Mix all the ingredients well and add them to the chicken bowl. Work the marinade on the chicken with the help of a hand for 3-4 minutes.
Marination: Chicken Bulgogi
Cover the bowl with a lid or wrapping paper and let it marinate for at least 12 hours. It’s better to refrigerate it or store it in a cold and dry place. Placing it in at elevated temperature will drain water from the chicken.
Arrange a pan and heat it on low flame add vegetable oil to it. Toast the sesame seeds in this oil and take them out.
Add the marinated chicken to it and let it cook on low flame. Add about half a cup of water and let it simmer on low to medium flame. Stir the chicken occasionally and flip the pieces. Let the water evaporate and cook it for 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is tender, and the sauce gets stick to the chicken pieces.
Allow it to rest for 5 minutes, dish out in a serving bowl and sprinkle with the roasted sesame seeds and garnish with some of the green onions. You can serve this amazing recipe with bread, rice, or even pasta.
For best results, you have to marinate the chicken 24 hours prior to cooking as it will enhance the taste. You can also replace sugar with honey or brown sugar. You can also increase or decrease the spices or sweetness of the dish as per your taste.
